Visit to the concentration camp Gross-Rosen in Rogoznica and the cathedral with mausoleum in Krzeszów

For the enthusiasts of culture and history we have composed the following arrangement. Of course, the course of the day is also dependent of the wishes of the group and we can spend more or less time on each part.

After firstly getting acquainted with the other members of the group, we leave to the town Rogoznica, better known as Gross-Rosen, in which the concentration camp of the same name was established during the Second World War. Here, in 1953 a monument was unveiled for the memory of the victims of the Nazi-regime.

There is an exhibition, a video in Dutch lasting a half hour of ex-prisoners speaking and there is a scale model concerning the history of the camp and the fate of its occupants. Approximately 40,000 people have been killed here. A German or an English-speaking person will guide us in the museum and the area. It is also possible to visit the stone pit where the prisoners were put to work. When you enter the area you already notice a strange feeling, as if you can smell the fear which prevailed. The camp is much smaller than Auschwitz, but certainly not less impressive. During your history lessons you have most likely not heard many of the tales which are told here.

On the way after this visit, we will try to direct ourselves towards nicer thoughts and go on with the excursion of the village Krzeszów. Here a lunch in a pizzeria follows, where you can get both pizzas and other meals. The village is famous for its convent with a wonderful cathedral. It is incomprehensible that such an immense construction work is located in the ‘middle or nowhere’. We pay a visit to this cathedral which is entirely renovated the previous years when the ceiling paintings were repaired. In the convent from the 13th century, nuns still work and live and it is well possible that you encounter them there. After this visit we can go on to the mausoleum by means of a special entrance. Finally you are brought back to Jaskolka a couple of experiences richer. In pension Jaskolka we will eat dinner together and share with each other the impressions of the day.
